When we think about an alpine or winter sports holiday, in most cases, people instantly think of Austria, France or Switzerland. Since these countries are synonymous with snow, mountain ranges and kitschy alpine villages, it comes as no surprise. Had you ever considered, that deep in the south of Europe, adrift in the blue of the Mediterranean sea, that there would be an alpine resort and health club? Probably not.
Greece is usually a destination we consider for seaside holidays; known for its endless horizon lines and cascade of white painted homes. Today, we are going to show you a different side of our fellow Europeans, and take you to Elatos Resort & Health Club. Tucked away in the Parnassus Mountains, roughly a two hour drive from Athens, you can experience a full blown alpine holiday, with winter sports fans from over the world making the pilgrimage here each year. The difference is, even during the summertime, if a beach vacation is not your idea of dream holiday, you can go hiking, biking or simply relax in the serene setting of the Parnassus Mountains. Take a look at the stunning photography provided by homify expert Nikos Reskos from StudioReskos.
From Elatos Resort & Health Club, it only takes a few minutes to reach the slopes of Parnassus. Aside from the mountains, you can enjoy the bounty of the surrounding landscape in the summer months and explore nature. With access to forests, meadows and a sea of greenery, you can let your lungs take a break from the smog-laden city air. And, if you would like to inject your holiday with a bit of culture and history, you can make a day trip to the archaeological site of Delphi, which is only 40km away.
Guests can choose to stay in 39 separate chalets, spread out over a picturesque setting. These cabins are built entirely from pine wood and local stone. It is for this reason, that this wonderful example of alpine accommodation, adapts perfectly to its environment of dense coniferous trees, and spectacular mountain ranges. The cabins vary in size, and offer space for between two to six people.
Each chalet has its own spacious veranda, complete with breathtaking views of the mountains. If you don't go hiking or for a walk, you can just as easily relax and take in the fresh alpine air from the comfort of your own cabin. Switch off your mobile phones, pagers and laptops, and allow yourself to just be one with nature. Here, it is so easy to forget the stress associated with everyday life. After all, the idea is to return from a holiday refreshed and rejuvenated, and with scenery like this, you are sure to do just that.
In addition to the individual chalets, the resort has a clubhouse with a heated indoor pool with massage room, whirlpool and fitness centre. Again, natural materials such as wood and stone, ensure an equally as cosy, rustic and luxurious ambience. The subtle mood lighting is a thing of beauty too. As we can see, very gently, it glitters, exerting its presence from the earthy shades that have been employed in this pool room.
The in-house restaurant at Elatos Resort & Health Club lets you sample traditional local cuisine, and selected international dishes. The hotel bar has a fireplace and spacious terrace, meaning that the space can be used to enjoy both a refreshing or heart-warming beverage. Comfortable sofas, much like the ones we have at home, are scattered around the lounge area, as well as wooden stools, and plenty of rustic stone and wooden beams, which conjure an inviting lodge atmosphere. It is these details that create the perfect balance between simplicity and luxury, and pave the way for an unforgettable holiday.
This is a view into the living area of one of the chalets. All cabins offer a cosy seating area with fireplace, a dining area, a kitchenette, a bathroom including slippers and bathrobes, and between one to three generously sized bedrooms. The designers have taken care to ensure the alpine look has continued even into the cabins, selecting wood as the cladding for the walls, floors and ceiling. This of course, gives the room a natural and inviting charm.
Lastly, but definitely not least, we will peer inside one of the bedrooms with attached en-suite bathroom. Retaining the same theme and continuity of the previous rooms, the luxurious and warm wooden environment has been maintained. You can just tell by looking at this picture, that after a busy day either in the resort or amongst nature, a good nights sleep will follow. Luxury and comfort go hand in hand, as evidenced, and it is apparent that each and every whim has been considered to ensure the perfect alpine retreat.
