This article focuses on the concrete flooring projects of Marcus Müller, who uses a specially adapted decorative resin to give an excellent, seamless finish to flooring inside and out. In addition, he applies his hand to giving a concrete finish to other surfaces in the home too—such as in the bathroom, kitchen and even furniture.
The uniquely tailored concrete resin finish can be applied to a variety of materials, screeds and types of stone; making it a very versatile substance. The finish is weatherproof and highly durable to local impact damage- unlike some other types of concrete flooring.
Because the concrete finish is applied by hand throughout, it allows for a seamless floor- no joins, line-ups or spacing is necessary. The end product is this (above), and I'm sure you'll agree, it is an attractive and unique finish. The natural resin in the mix adds an elasticity to the final product too, stopping cracks and fractures on its surface, which results in the acquisition of added durability.
The versatility of the product gives home owners the opportunity to personalize the look of their floor. Here, for example, we see that division lines can been added- and to good effect. The mix is also available in a variety of colours, shades and sheen intensities. The full weather proofing of the finish is resistant to standard weather types, minus temperatures and and salt application in the winter, making it suitable for anywhere.
Because of the thin layering of the concrete (2-3mm max), the application time, post screed/concrete slab perpetration, is very low- as is the working time of the product, 30-45 minutes, temperature depending. The adhesive properties of the finish mean that it can be applied to most typical flooring types, like tiles and slabs- and for walls: plasterboard and various types of plaster.
The product is also breathable, meaning that ground works and ceiling supports wont be compromised and bubbling will never occur.
Here we can see the versatility of Marcus Müller's work. That's right, the finish can even be applied to furniture- and, we think, to great effect. The smooth sheen from these wardrobe doors is both unique and attractive to look at; adding a very different element of style to any bedroom. A product with limitless potential!
The square faces of these concrete slabs are an ideal scenario for this product. Individual white stone spacing line the edges, breaking up the concrete, adding a pleasant touch to the design. As mentioned before, the weather proofing of the concrete finish will also withstand freezing temperatures and erosion from salt.
Another example of the easy application of the product over a sand screed with a wire mesh overlay. Easily applied directly and no need for excessive preparation, an area like this can be covered reasonably quickly; working time included.
The bright tone of the selected mix here chimes in well with the sunny surroundings and will aid in brighting up the outside area, even with little sunlight.
The seamless quality of the concrete finish really does itself justice in the bathroom. Look at how simplistic but outstanding the finish looks in here, with complete personalisation potential; a bright, intense and warm coloured flower arrangement between the two sinks would stand out a fantastically.
Furthermore, although it is a breathable surface, because of the natural resins used in the cement finish, it is not porous; as such it can be used as a surface for showers and wet rooms.
Overall the diverse and versatile nature of Marcus Müller's product is one that we've really taken a liking to. It's quick to prepare, fast to apply and leaves a splendid result every time. We're looking forward to more projects using this concrete finish in the future.
