With all this talk about extravagent living rooms that are reminiscent of Nordic, Scandinavian or minimalist spaces—why don't we dial it back a few times to a traditional and classic living room. This style, after all, is what most homeowners seek. It's safe, professional-looking, clean and elegant. It's also the easiest style to complete in-budget. However, in order to accomplish a classic and elegant living room there are many considerations to be made from colour combinations to materials and decorative accessories.

Below we have six of the best ways to create a classic and elegant liviing room that won't look typical, nor boring. So get ready!

Metallic features

This Art Deco-style living room screams sophistication and elegance. There's a nice neutral colour palette with pops of yellow colour, floor length curtains that play off the silver metallics of the room and a wonderful seating arrangement that promotes conversation and closeness. Adding metallic features to your living room can give the illusion of more space and can also add plenty of reflective light if you're running low on window space.

Multiple sources are proclaiming metals and metallics will have a huge influence on the interior trends of 2017, check out more metallic decorating ideas here!

One way to show that you're keeping your living room well-organised is to try to accomplish as much symmetry as possible. When arranging furnishings and decor, make sure to keep your space balanced, and keep seating arrangements close together so guests won't feel as though they're sitting worlds apart.

Fresh florals

House plants not only show that you pay attention to detail, but fresh flowers show that you take the time and consideration to make your space comfortable, fresh and lovely. Grabbing fresh florals from your local store or flower market is a great way to add a pop of colour to your home, give off a great scent in your living room, or prepare for a special dinner or cocktail party! Stick to all white flowers for a super elegant and sophisticated look.

An area rug

Of course, if you have a marble, concrete or wood floor, you might be hesitant to cover it up and we understand why! However, not only will an area rug protect your floor, it will also keep your feet warmer during winter months and add a great design detail to your living room. Consider high-pile rugs for more comfort and a luxurious look. For a more traditional and classic look, choose a low-pile rug with an oriental or floral pattern and stick with neutrals so to make sure it matches your interior.

Dark neutrals

Neutrals will never go out of style, however, as 2017 approaches we're noticing that darker neutrals and bolder colours are coming into trend. Stick with darker neutrals, like those seen in this living room, and leave the pops of colour to the pillows, accessories and art works on the wall for an elegant, clean and classic look.
