We all know the saying—When you're onto something good, you shouldn't let it go. This statement very much applied to the design process of this Bedfordshire home. Why? Because the clients of this mammoth extension commissioned Aura Designworks to undertake the work on their private residence due to the stellar results of a commercial project in the past. The clients were in the process of building a new 2 storey extension which would expand their current home into a 5 bedroom and 3 bathroom house. On top of this, extensive work was required on the living room and kitchen, which as you will soon see, has been completed to great effect. The designers worked on the spatial layout of the home, ensuring that the builders constructed each room as it should be and in line with modern living needs. We promise you'll be blown away by the phenomenal change evidenced in the images below. Take a look…

Before: The kitchen

We start our before and after tour in the heart of the home; the kitchen. By looking at this image, you don't see much of a heart and soul, rather, a stripped back skeletal canvas that allows the designers to start fresh and totally rejuvenate this space.

After: The kitchen

Wow—what a dramatic transformation from the image above! The design incorporates a breakfast bar and TV area—perfect for those quick meals on the run. The details in this kitchen are truly what makes it—a granite countertop and high gloss units give a sleek and elegant appeal. The open plan nature of the design is conducive to interaction and conversation, meaning that guests and family members alike can feel amongst the chatter and banter.

Moving into the bedroom, we see a rather disastrous scene that reveals tell-tale signs of an era we'd rather forget. An explosion of pink, floral and frills dominates the space, as does that ghastly rose coloured cushioned headboard. As with the kitchen, the new bedroom is unrecognisable, and appropriately looks more like a lavish hotel bedroom than a mismatched melange of pink.

After: The bedroom

What a refreshing and serene bedroom to wake up in. The colour palette is perfect—sexy and modern, yet classic and elegant. Again, attention has been paid to the finer details in this space, with our eyes drawn to the chic chandelier and luxurious pewter bedspread. The new headboard is bang on trend, as is the colour scheme, which is sure to remain at the top of its game for many years to come.

Unfortunately, this is a scene that many homeowners would be able to sympathise with. Floral tiles, dirty grout and the dreaded shower curtain that forces us shivering into one corner. Thankfully, this ensuite bathroom has been given a second chance, and looks absolutely nothing like this any more.

The modern bathroom, despite it's petite size, is actually filled with a range of modern technological features. The owners had requested a bidet be installed, but due to size constraints this was going to be an issue. To combat this problem, the Geberit AquaClean 8000 plus combination toilet and bidet was installed, so the clients had the very best of both worlds! The other requirement, which you can see here, is the Jacuzzi Essteam 1400 steam room, so the occupants can well and truly wind down after a busy day.

As with the kitchen, the living room was stripped back to basics to reveal the existing structural framework. The curved cornices and compartmentalised spaces show the age of the property, and as you will soon see, have been promptly removed from this timewarp.

The designers had a hefty task ahead of them as the clients did not want to retain any of the current fixtures and fittings in the house. Therefore, all the art, furniture, lighting and accessories (including that stunning hand blown glass feature on the dining table at the rear) needed to be sourced. And, would you believe, the dining room table is from the Art Deco period! Every last inch of detail has been considered, so no corner or nook has been left unconsidered. What a truly wonderful transformation this dated home in Bedfordshire has undergone. We hope it has inspired you to tackle even the most dreaded renovation task that you might have on the cards!
