Here on homify, we absolutely love seeing old properties given a second chance at life. This is especially so for old barns, as their timeless style oozes with classic English charm and provides us with a glimpse into the past. Whether they're saved from ruins or brought into the current century, it's great to see this wonderful style of home having the chance to become a part of our modern lives. The project we're privileged to tour through today is of a barn kitchen renovation by Studio3Kitchens. In the images that follow, you'll see a remarkable transformation that shows off the flair of the designers who have successfully managed to merge a rustic barn style together with modern creature comforts. Take a look…
In this first image, which shows a process shot of the barn kitchen renovation, you'll see that the space has been stripped back to basics, ready to be given a new lease on life. The ceiling and floors have been left exposed, making us wonder what the finished result will be like…
Wow—it's hard to believe that this is the same space as above! Aside from the raw brick wall, the new modern fit out brings this barn kitchen space well and truly into the 21st century.
Kitchen islands are the height of popularity and it's not hard to see why. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but they are highly functional and practical, too. The central location of the island creates a space that is conducive to interaction and conversation with both guests and family members alike. They also provide work space that can be accessed from every angle and a myriad of solutions when it comes to storage possibilities.
The kitchen worktop is the same gloss finish as evidenced on the island above, creating a dialogue across the various work surfaces. Though the overall appeal of the space is modern, kitschy details like the jars and steels cannisters on the benchtop add that very special touch of country charm.
Instead of the standard 6-seater dining room setting, we see a more casual approach to dining in this image. A wooden table with horizontal shaped benches creates a laid back atmosphere—perfect for a rural style kitchen when sumptuous dinners or lunches reign supreme. You can just imagine the scent of a roast filling the room, or long winded family events full of merriment and cheer.
Of course, no quaint barn renovation would be complete without a little rustic space to cosy up when the weather gets cold. This intimate seating area has a warm and inviting aura thanks to the elegant sofa and wood-burning fire. It is also the perfect space to have a catnap when you've just eaten a big meal! The wooden detail on the upper part of the wall and the rough exposed brick fits in wonderfully to the scene, creating a space that would definitely be hard to leave once settled into.
