Here at homify, we love seeing old homes saved from ruins and totally transformed! It's not uncommon to see badly laid out and shabbily decorated kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms, especially in older homes. So it's great when professionals like Saving Graces Interiors come to the rescue and breathe new life into a house that was clearly crying out for help. Below, you'll see a home that was in dire need of updating, transformed into a sleek, contemporary home that simply radiates modern style and flair. Take a look…

Before: the kitchen

We begin our tour inside the heart of the home—the kitchen. As you can tell by the cabinets and furniture, this space is outdated and drab, lacking any real character and charm. The appliances have been haphazardly installed underneath the mismatch of cabinets, the floorboards have been stained a tone far too deep, and the decorative elements just don't fit together.

After: the kitchen

Wow—what a transformation! Before, the kitchen seemed to lack light and personality, now, it feels spacious and bright! The choice of colour palette does massive favours for the narrow dimensions of the area, and even though the cupboard space has essentially tripled, the design feels larger and better resolved. Check out how great the new, sanded back floorboards look! They inject a minimalist, Nordic feel into the space.

Before: the sitting room

The sitting room too, like the kitchen, looks sad and tired. The floorboards are also over stained in this room, as in the wooden fireplace. Though they are the same material, they just don't match. The old sofas have seen better days, as has the unexciting coffee table made from frosted glass and steel.

After: the sitting room

The new sitting room has been awarded an elegant and sexy colour palette, evidenced thorough a melange of purple, silver and beige. Again, the floorboards have been sanded back to a more inviting shade, and the fireplace has been given a new lease on life with a fresh lick of white paint. This is definitely a room that the occupants can be proud to relax or entertain in.

Before: the bedroom

An uninviting shade of pale yellow dons the walls of this bedroom, with many drill holes and patches providing remnants of the past. It's hard to think that this space could feel inviting and warm, but we assure you that you'll be surprised by the outcome!

After: the bedroom

The bedroom is now the epitome of calm and serenity, with a gentle punch of colour added through the red roses on the curtains and cushion case. The bedframe and choice of linen is timeless and classic, sure to transcend through many eras of home decorating trends. As you can also see, the floorboards have been replaced by carpet; certainly a much better option for a bedroom.

Before: the living room

The living room in this image is in progress of being updated, but you can see that it has been stripped back to its bones. You might be a little confused by what this space-age looking structure sitting in the middle of the room is, as were we. But once you see the after image below, it'll all make sense.

After: the living room

The living room is now stylish and contemporary! It is light-filled and open plan, and as you can see, the strange structure above has been transformed into a clever storage unit and room divider. Housing trinkets and a bold new fireplace, this living room is at the height of modern design. Not only through the fresh and lively colour palette, but also in terms of spatial layout, furniture choice and a new-found relationship with the adjoining rooms.
