Bishops Avenue is known as one of London's most sought after and prestigious addresses. Dubbed Billionaire's Row, the street is home to an array of high-profile individuals with a penchant for incredible architecture and luxury mansions. With these kind of statistics, it is with no doubt that the owners of the Fairways would seek the advice of a firm with an outstanding resume and collection of bespoke interior design projects to complete their internal and external fit out.
Celia Sawyer, star of Four Rooms, business mogul and of course, interior decorator to the stars, was responsible for the design of the Fairways. With an undeniable eye for detail and understanding of luxury and quality products, Celia has transformed 17,000 square feet into an incredible and enviable example of interior design. We know you're itching to see more, so let's take a closer look..
Resembling the set of the highly acclaimed Baz Luhrmann movie The Great Gatsby, the Art Deco period was known for lavish ornamentation, glamour and hand crafted finishes. This era suits the brief of the house perfectly as all of these elements have been employed into the design.
Pictured is the 775 square metre garden and outdoor entertaining area which displays an uninterrupted view of the Highgate golf course. The lighting of the garden creates a warm and charismatic ambience; a place where you can imagine going for a romantic stroll or celebrating until the sun comes up…
The hallway of a house is like the opening chapter of a book; it is a taste of the beginning, but only reveals a hint of what is still to come. The entrance of the Fairways speaks in volumes. The double height atrium staircase floods the room with natural light and the ornate mirrors help the reflect this into the darker corners and spaces.
Creating an almost tunnel like effect, the eye is draw directly to the back of the image where you can see a black grand piano in the distance. Generating a sense of discovery and curiosity, we are made to feel as though we want to delve further into this home, and explore all the wonderful treasures that will no doubt be found around each corner.
With a price tag of £18,000, this custom made dining room table is the irrefutable feature element of this room. Playing with geometry and hierarchy, the border around the dining room set clearly defines the area for eating.
The beige crushed velvet, which is reflected in both the chairs and curtains, oozes opulence, and cleverly adds a point of difference between the different textures in the room. On top of this, the illuminated coffered ceiling pays homage to the Art Deco style in a modern and fun way.
Stretching over the entire length of the rear facade, this double volume living room opens out to the garden via a series of glass French doors. Using the furniture from Celia's own brand, Cool10 Luxury Interiors, the room oozes both timeless elegance and modernity at the same time. The light pouring in from the garden, bathes the room in an ethereal and angelic glow and makes the room feel open and spacious. Again, we see the same patterns repeated throughout the house which creates unity and a well defined theme of velvet and silk fabrics, mirrored surfaces and an illuminated coffered ceiling.
A signature element in Celia's designs are the use of mirrors. Here we see mirrored side tables, two mirrored boxes at the foot of the bed, a mirror above the mantelpiece and two either side of the bed. There is a clever optical illusion behind this tactic; even when there is little access to natural light or the room is on the small side, the mirrors reflect the other surfaces in the room making it appear larger and more light filled. As you can see, it has worked a treat in this room; making it look even bigger than it already is. In the same vein, the vertical decorative backboard of the bed, draw the eye upwards adding height.
Two chandeliers sit proudly on either side of the mantel adding a touch of glamour and pizzazz. In addition to these ornate details, choosing a regal colour palette for this bedroom helps to continue the theme of Art Deco throughout the house.
Marble is just one of the many luxurious textures on display in the Fairways interior. The mirrored surfaces are carried through even into the bathroom with this stunning vanity unit. However, the stand out feature of this room is of course, the floor to ceiling white marble with grey vein. The epitome of elegance and class, this en-suite bathroom is the perfect addition to the decorative Master Bedroom.
Overall, the entire concept was executed with the same flair and sophistication that Celia Sawyer is renown for. It is without question, after seeing the work completed on this home, why she is one of the most sought after interior designers in the world.
