Only when our guests have left, are we sometimes annoyed by the occasional mud stain or scratch on our hallway floors. In order to escape this predicament, we just need to choose the right flooring for our hallway. Durable, scratch resistant, water resistant, and of course, good looking.

Today, we have called upon the help of our experts and put together an ideabook of full of excellent examples of hallway design.

Wooden planks

A floor made of wood has distinct advantages: it always appears warm and inviting! However, this coating is also sensitive. Small pebbles under your shoes or pointed high heels can leave unsightly marks on the wood.

Another plus for a wooden floor is that it allows us to perform a bit of an optical illusion. Long and light wooden floorboards make small corridors appear longer, and also wider. If the hallway is large and full of light, you can complete the inverse, choosing dark and large planks.

Tiling

For something a little colourful and varied in the hall, you can always choose to decorate it with tiles. In addition, this material is pleasantly easy to clean - small puddles and mud stains can be wiped away in an instant. However, caution is required with small, sharp and scratchy substances here. On the plus side, the more colourful the tiles are, the less scratches and nicks you will see.

Natural stone has proven itself over the past few decades for being not only elegant and charming, bu highly durable and long lasting too. Therefore it is one of the most robust materials for flooring on the market, and is as a consequence, an ideal floor covering. The best thing about natural finishes is that whether it is granite, limestone or basalt—each stone has a unique colour and marbling.

Rugs & runners

You cannot go past an eye-catching rug or runner in a hallway. While tiles can usually be wiped with a damp cloth, the carpet should be in most cases, cleaned more intensely. For sound insulation, a carpet in the hallway is definitely recommended to absorb the noise level. Aside from this, it is a wonderful and decoartive option for any home.

Illusions with linoleum

Does wood, stone or carpet not match the style of your house, or does it not meet your taste or needs? Of course there are still other flooring alternatives: Custom printed linoleum brings something more creative and guarantees an eye-catcher in the hallway.
