Two weeks ago summer arrived for us Europeans, meaning longer days and rising temperatures and, for the lucky ones, days of beach, cafes and ice cream time. Yes, it has finally arrived, the year long expected, favorite season for both young and old. So now, we must start preparing our work, our wardrobes, our skin and our bags. But what about our homes?

It too needs an overhaul. Find out in this ideabook different ways to do it!

The terrace

It's time to get the armchairs and loungers, cushions dusted off and out of storage . Breakfast, a drink or late night read—who doesn't love summer.

To get the most out of these spaces, we have to choose the furniture and decor appropriately. Iron and plastic materials are usually more resistant and better for longevity. However, some cushions and backrests protect your surfaces and in addition, will be more comfortable. If you prefer wood, we must ensure that its surface is treated to prevent breaks and fading from the sun. Also make sure if you are including plant life on your terrace to choose the species accordingly to suit the climate.

We know not everyone is lucky enough or wants to have a pool at home. However, if you are part of the few that day, here are some tips. Firstly, we must empty it, make sure the structure has not been damaged through the winter months and check that everything is working properly. Secondly, the walls and base need to be thoroughly cleaned, but never with an abrasive soap. After cleaning, we can fill it and restore it to its original glory. We must ensure that the pH is between 7.2 and 7.6 and, if not, add reagents to reach it.

Gardens

Gardens must be kept throughout the year. However, now that summer has arrived, we can review what is there. Remove weeds, check that our irrigation system is working properly and that reaches all the vegetation in our garden, mow the lawn, prune and fertilise the plants, and if necessary, clean up diseased vegetation.

Alternative gardens

For those who do not have a garden, here is an original alternative. An apartment in a tower block without a terrace and you can enjoy plants and greenery, even on the wall. This wallpaper can freshen the evenings in our room and give us a nice view, even though it is fictitious.

Textures

Say goodbye to wool, cashmere and all things fluffy and welcome fresh cottons, linens and transparent fabrics. Yes, not only our closet has to get rid of the jerseys and scarves, but curtains and carpets also have to dress in keeping with the new season. Adding new and bright colours too, will certainly freshen up the home!
