What came first? The chicken or the egg? In this case, the question will be; was it the chair or the table (historically speaking) that was invented first? It is difficult to answer this question, and in the grand scheme of things, it isn't something that plagues our minds on a daily basis. What we do know is that choosing a table for your  dining room is not easy, and then sometimes the situation is amplified when the time comes to decide on chairs to match. We could opt for something classic, or impress our dinner guests with something a little left of field, in this ideabook we have sourced objects to suit every taste.

A swing in your step

If you wanted to explain to your friends that you'd bought a swing set as dining room table, they might look at you with a little confusion. Where do you begin this description? Chairs that resemble swings with a floating table? The team here at homify was absolutely blown away by this amazing sculptural and innovative option for a dining room table.

Precarious balance

A fear of falling? As soon as we saw the Megalith Table we had exactly the same impression: Will it fall over? Of course not, the design plays with the force of gravity and freezes right before the time of the disaster. The apparent falling sensation of this domino, is in fact, creating an enviable amount of stability for the crystal table above.

Shadow play

Furnishing your home can be a game, if you remove the chore from the idea first.  The table we just saw changed our minds about gravity and perception, but we have another surprise around the corner. The image pictured takes inspiration from the famous Bauhaus chairs but there is a difference; there is an additional plate at the bottom which creates a shadow on the floor in a stylised way.

Perspex & wood

This is a game of contrasts; the chairs and tables in this instance rival one another for beauty. So who becomes the focal point? Which materials catch your eye the most?

Ethereal elegance

In complete contrast with the table above, this table does not shout for attention, in fact, it blends seamlessly into its surroundings as a more subtle and subdued example. In conjunction with the light pouring in from the windows, the room appears airy and spacious. A very modern and angelic example of dining room design.

Industrial

A house with a strong industrial spirit requires a table and chairs on the same vein. Several chairs, or in this example, maybe even stools can look really beautiful. Not only just the wood and steel, but even the leather matches well with its environment.

Inflatable

Ciotti Design realised the InflaTable project, which is basically a summary of what we have said so far about the marriage between functionality, creativity, strength and colour. The table has a double face: the first to sit 4 people, but can be stretched to accommodate 12. Indoor or outdoor, you can place this table in both environments.
