If you enjoyed the theme of the week from the last fortnight of ’Exceptional balconies’, then you will be equally as excited to see the ideabook we have put together today. We will endeavor to give you some useful advice on how to decorate your small balcony, and to make the most of this limited outdoor space.

The main difference between the terrace and the balcony is the structure; while the latter is in fact an element added to the main body of the building, the first is included in it. Although the size of the balconies are often reduced, this does not mean that you can't make the most of the limited surface, creating a small oasis of relaxation where you can read a good book or simply drink a glass of wine after work.

Wood

Our expert Paul Newman, has created a wonderful ambience with a small table, chairs and lanterns. In the end, big or small, a space outside our four walls is always something pleasant. In this picture we can see that our architect has created a cozy balcony with a few pieces of furniture. The choice of flooring was crucial in order to achieve this result: as we know, this material makes a setting appear much more intimate and warm.

If you are fond of plants and like to relax by breathing in the scent of flowers, why not decorate your terrace with a small garden? A lovely flowered balcony is beautiful both to admire and relax on. By simply adding a bench or chair, you can also spend time with good company.

Aesthically pleasing

As it happens, rental properties have some drawbacks; details that we do not like and cannot change because the home owner does not agree. In this case the only thing to do is try to improve the aesthetics . As you can see, this balcony has a painted concrete floor, and to try to counteract the cold atmosphere, it was decided to use wood and wicker furniture, with the addition of flowers and a lamp. The result is certainly an improvement of the environment that is more harmonious and in line with our tastes.

Spices

Our expert Francesca Romano says that ’ the detail is or signs that make up a small part together .’ And we fully agree, in fact, besides the usual flowers and plants, we recommend that enrich your balcony with pots of herbs . The spices grow better in the open air rather than in the kitchen and a great place to grow them is definitely the balcony!

Black & white

As mentioned earlier, wood is always a great ally in the construction of a balcony. Depending on the style of the interior of our house, this dictates what type of furniture to use outdoors. In this case, there is a black and white living room consisting of a sofa, armchair and coffee table. Acting as shelter from the sun, the owners have added an umbrella, so that the space becomes usable all day, from breakfast to after dinner.

Remember: the terrace as balcony, and therefore, lighting plays a very important role. You don't want to add in the standard lights that you would find inside, or any that create a boring spot lit atmosphere, causing the space to be too bright. Soft lighting creates ambience and a certain moodiness to the area and will definitely have you and your guests lingering long after the sun has set.

Soak up the sun

A comfortable wicker chair is the perfect addition for those who love to soak up the sun, have a cocktail and read a book on their balconies. Perfect for relaxing and reclining, you can be sure to spend the majority of your summer days passing the time here.
