HERE is a beautiful retro coffee shop in Berkhamsted. Located in a region typically known for its incredible castles and forts, the town is now blessed with the presence of this gem of a coffee shop which supports locally grown products, sustainability and community spirit. With beautiful retro decorations and fixtures, the design of the coffee shop will have you wanting to linger and hang around long after you have finished your coffee. A must see project for all lovers of gastronomy and coffee shop design.

Partly resembling an American diner, the neon sign against the biscuit coloured render completely brings the scene to life. The turquoise sofa spans the entire back length of the room, opening the space and extending the eye outwards. In perfect retro and eclectic style, the chairs are mismatched yet appear balanced and uniform. Using the ceiling height, the designers have made a very interesting light display by having both quirky ceiling lamps and hanging globes.
Like a scene from a bustling Sunday market, the shelves of HERE cafe are bursting with localling grown produce, wine and independent cookbooks. Achieving the mismatched style can be difficult, it actually takes more planning than you would think. There is no cause to believe that the shelves have just been decorated in a hodgepodge fashion, rather, one must carefully plan which elements go where in order to create balance and harmony for potential shoppers.
Tucked into the corner is this little oasis of peace and quiet. Read a book or the paper, check e-mail or simply watch the rain fall outside the window—whatever you desire, you know you can do so in such an inviting and warm space as this. Changing the repertoire of the take away coffees and food at the front, this pocket of space in the back is for those who want a little change of pace to their daily coffee routine.
Both inside and out, HERE coffee shop is simply glowing. A contrast to the red brick building, and in a clearly different era, the façade has cleverly been painted white to show a clear distinction between the old and new. Using an existing shop sign, the designers have placed a vastly modern plaque to hang from the wrought iron arm. These are all exciting and well placed elements that make the coffee shop stand out in a league of its own.
