A pale birch colour is the perfect addition to this minimalist and contemporary kitchen. Once upon a time, tiles were the first choice when it came to kitchen flooring. However, nowadays, we are seeing more and more timber flooring being used throughout entire houses. Invariably, it seems tiles are becoming dated. Why? Timber is always classic—it is simple to clean, easy to maintain and suits a wide range of kitchen fit outs; you can match high-tech stainless steel appliances to classic, brass fittings and fixtures with ease.
Timber is known to be a great insulator when it comes to sound and temperature; both being of utmost importance when music and expensive instruments are in question. Not only does this beautiful floor look like an elegant recital space, but also has the ability to be transformed into a full blown concert venue. You can just imagine on a warm summers night, opening up the sliding doors and allowing the inside and outside spaces to interact.
This picture is the epitome of Swedish minimalism with its white-washed finish and ethereal ambience. Every small element and detail in this room are on the same tonal scale, which, in actual fact, is a very difficult look to achieve. The wooden flooring in this room plays a very pivotal role. If you were to imagine, say, white tiles, you would find yourself staring at picture of a room that would look quite uninviting and sparse. The subtle grain in the timber, coupled with the slight variations in colour, create a floor that lifts and adds an extra element of depth to the space.
We are so glad to see that parquetry floors have made a resurgence! A parquetry floor is often found in older homes, however, if you absolutely love the look, there are artisan carpenters available who will be able to reproduce this amazing flooring example. Most commonly completed in the herringbone pattern (as pictured), there are a range of other distinct styles available—the choice is yours!
You really cannot go wrong when you add wooden flooring with a golden hue. Appearing inviting and warm, it is the perfect netural base for any room. With the ample penetration of natural light, you are able to see the wonderful grain in the timber. This particular colour is great because it suits a wide range of colour palettes, and is also great if you like to change the decor of your bedroom often.
