Let’s see what transpired with this project which entailed a stylish kitchen extension in Marylebone, NW8.
After purchasing their property (a Victorian terraced house), the owners decided to give the rear a fresh new look, seeing as it had fallen into a state of disrepair. However, to achieve a modern kitchen and dining space, both an extension and a complete redesign of the space was necessary.
But the fact that this was a listed property posed a challenge, for any proposed changes by the owner first had to go through the local authority.
After much planning, a side extension was voted the best means of achieving the desired look for the property. But this was not the end of the project.
In addition, Resi also renovated the existing space, plus opted to give the rest of the original house a layout makeover. An orangery style structure was created to help up keep the period property's original look and feel..
In order to blend the modern aesthetics with the classic style that the owners desired, Resi partnered up with a local manufacturer for brand-new fittings. Combining forces, the professionals conjured up a new kitchen that perfectly made use of the space, complete with traditional shaker-style fittings, worktops that complemented the new look, and stylish floor surfaces in the same soft-and-earthy colour palette as the rest of the design.
For the orangery type structure, the roof, doors and timber frames were connected. This resulted in each element complementing one another and, thus, ensured a visual flow with the existing structure.
For a more practical layout, opening sizes were also increased, as well as the roof made higher. The result was an open flow between the interiors (the kitchen and dining area) and the exterior garden and terrace – the ideal layout to enhance social occasions between the homeowners and guests.
Of course delicate details were also sprinkled in, such as this attractive and well-fitted sink area, provided by Tom Howley Kitchens.
To help with storage and enhance the kitchen’s visual aesthetics, an attractive set of kitchen cabinets, designed by Tom Howley Kitchens, was installed.
Suffice it to say that this was a project which offered its fair share of complications. Although no major problems occurred with the neighbours, a few issues with the party wall did pop up. Fortunately, all problems encountered were resolved professionally and swiftly by the Resi team.
And today, these homeowners have not only a bright new cooking-and-dining space, but also more potential for indoor and outdoor socialising and entertaining.
