Dining should be a wonderful occasion. And there is nothing that makes it a better experience than doing it in style. We love to entertain, and imagine you do too. In order to do this, a large dining table is required. No matter how you use it, a large table will always have it's benefits.

A table can be used for formal occasions, where everyone sits down to a lovely meal. Or it can be used informally at a buffet style lunch where people wander freely around. Whatever the occasion you are hosting, the perfect table can make all the difference. If you have a room large enough for a bigger dining table, here are a few ideas for you to peruse and think about.

Butterflies and light

If you want something a little different, then look no further. This room is so open and bright and can sit up to 10 people with ease. We absolutely adore the openness of the whole room. The light floor is made even lighter by the huge ceiling window that sits directly above the table. The lightness is contrasted by the stunning dark wallpaper that is covered in butterflies. The butterflies look like they could just fly right out of the paper out of the ceiling window.

A social occasion

This dining room was designed with the owners in mind. They are the sort of people who like to socialise and wanted a dining space that would accommodate family and friends. We can see by the large dining table that this is certainly a space made with people in mind. The design is simple and clean, with lots of space around the table for people to walk around too. The colour scheme isn't too loud or brash, yet has elegance and style to it. The wood throughout the room makes it look very welcoming as a space to sit and eat in.

Family appeal

If you have a large family, it would be lovely to have them all sit down together. This wooden table with leather chairs offers that opportunity. The matching sideboard helps keep the table free of clutter and keeps the lines very simple. The rug by The Rug Studio really sets the table off too and helps it stand out. We love the legs on the table that are large and chunky, giving it a very unique look.

Contemporary feel

We like the contemporary design of this dining table. It is in a very modern looking home and it all looks very luxurious. The rooms all blend together thanks to the open plan and the high ceilings. Everything feels open and shared, and the table is the perfect size for the space. The wood of the table matches the exposed wooden beams and helps offset the white in the room. We think this table with its benches has a traditional feel to it, even in the contemporary setting, which make it perfect for families to gather around. Young and old could sit here and share a meal and talk away their day.

Absolute style

When it comes to dining, it can be a family affair, with children running around and a little bit if mayhem. Sometimes though, it is time to have a grown up affair, where you get to dine in style in your own home. Dressing a large table for a dinner party, such as in this image, can really transform any dining table from a family one, into one of elegance and style. The gold and glass work very well in making everything feel expensive and grand. The beautiful floral centre piece finish the table perfectly.

Extended room

When you want an extension, you want something that creates the perfect space to entertain. In this photo, this is exactly what has happened. A ground floor extension allowed for the creation of a dining area large enough to accommodate a big dining table. Entertaining here would be perfect, with views all around into the garde, whilst being flooded with sunshine and day light.

Minimalist

A clustered look isn't  something that appeals to everyone. If you prefer the understated and minimalist look, a table like this may be more your style. With simplistic lines and benches, it still accommodates a lot of people, but looks sleek and can be pushed to one side with the benches underneath it. The distressed wood on the floor is dark, as is the wood on the table, yet it doesn't look to overpowering due to the large windows and white walls. This room is the perfect place for a large dining table. It is reminiscent of a large country dining table and we love this overall look.

Barn dining

With farm buildings and conversations growing in popularity, making them into a suitable dining space is a clever use of the space. High ceilings add to the luxury look and help create a great sense of space. This space is incredibly light looking from the ceiling to the floor. The blue of the chairs really add a fantastic splash of colour and brings the room together as a place we would want to sit in with friends.

Deceptively big

This table looks smaller than the others, but can seat almost as many people. If you want to sit a lot of people, but are limited on space, an oval table is a great option. A rectangle isn't the only shape out there after all. This dining room can hold a table that still seats a good number of people. It looks chic and stylish with the place settings on it. The light fitting also adds to the overall look, making it feel elegant and very modern.

A family home

With lots of friends or family, a large dining table can really appeal to everyone. A large family does need a large table where everyone can gather and chat. A family dining table needs to be practical and easy to clean. Keeping it simple, like this one, can mean its easy to maintain and is hard-wearing for all of those family occasions. Big enough for birthday dinners and social events and still looking tasteful. Whatever your dining needs, consider a large table for all those special occasions.
