Make a pegboard shelving system

Pegboard is a great and affordable way to organise some of the most functional areas of your home.  A lot of homeowners use pegboard to organise tools and utensils—however, why not place pegboard in your home office to really reap its benefits?

A pegboard shelving system requires a few pieces of wood and even some cheaper plywood to get everything started. Pegboards are great for business and creative ventures, allowing you to not only place various books and files on them, but also to paste up random ideas and inspirations as you move along! Best of all, they can be customized to any size you wish and colour as well! Check out this ideabook to see how pegboard is a staple in an organised desk environment!

Fix up your mobile charging station

As our lives are inevitably filled with several electronics, hand-held devices and tablets, our home becomes full of electric cords and charging units. As you might know from experience, losing a charging cable for your device can be especially annoying, and if you tend to work from home this can be a real problem.

We suggest you designate a special area in your home that is just for charging all of your devices together and leave them there!  Not only will this keep your cords and electronics together in the same place, but it will also afford you a better nights sleep if you leave all electronics in this area to charge, rather than taking them to bed with you!

Make a vinyl wall hanger for your bathroom

If you don't know by now, vinyl is an incredibly affordable and versatile material that can be used in all areas of your home. The best part about vinyl is its price and versatility, so you can use it with a ton of DIY projects.

Why not use vinyl (which can withstand wetness, humidity and heat) in your bathroom as a way to create more wall hangers, or even vinyl labels as seen here. Keep your bathroom items organised for both you and guests. Best of all, great organisation in functional environments, like kitchens and bathrooms, encourages great hygiene practices as well!

Make an entryway wall organizer

The entry way to your home is the the second impression you give your guests into the story of your life—the first is of course the exterior of your home—hence, why curb appeal is so important! Even if you're a single family, or someone who lives alone and likes to entertain a lot, in order to keep the rest of your home organized and clean you need to make sure the first port of entry is where the organised lifestyle and clean-up of messes begins.

Make a great DIY shelving unit and wall organiser for your entry way that allows for coat and scarf hangers, a place to sit down and remove your shoes, shoe organisers and other compartments for necessary objects such as umbrellas, bags and keys!

Kitchen ladle storage

Kitchen utensils and ladles are a recurrent item in any kitchen, whether you cook a lot or not. For a healthy lifestyle, great hygiene and easy accessibility, it's best to keep utensils and ladles in an organised and exposed place.

Take this kitchen for example; we love the idea of hanging your ladles with an exposed hook and/or shelving system. Not only does this make each item fully noticeable and accessible as you're cooking, but it also saves on countertop space instead of placing them in jars or flat-bottom holders.  Simply install a steel pip or beam into any kitchen wall of your choice and find double-ended hooks that fit the width of the pipe—and voila!

Cosmetics storage organiser

Cosmetics, toiletries and various other items such as hand soaps, hand creams and body products should be given a special place in your bathroom or dressing room in order to keep it fresh and organised.

We suggest only placing items you use on a daily basis in your bathroom, for example, on an exposed shelving system like seen here. Anything else should be placed in plastic storage units in drawers, cupboards or in a separate room where you get ready in the morning to avoid an over-crowded bathroom and less-than-hygienic space!

Shoe storage organiser

This does not just apply to women.  Everyone owns shoes, and more than likely it can be said that everyone owns more pairs of shoes than they actually need or use. Either way, finding a great place to store them is incredibly important when you're struggling to keep the common areas of your house mess-free and clean.

Start by using our suggestion above and placing minimal shoe storage in the entryway of your home as to avoid wet and dirty messes. For the rest of your shoes that you don't wear that often, place them in exposed organised shelving (as seen here) so you can maximise your efficiency for getting ready in the morning and for big events. Simply purchase cheaper pieces of thick wood and for added decor and design, either paint them in colours of your choice, or better yet, purchase some great textured or patterned wall paper to cover the shelving units for a more unique look!
