An organised kitchen

It's no secret—working in a disorganised and untidy kitchen is hardly inspiring or conducive to creativity. The kitchen is one of those places where over time, we accumulate a huge range of appliances, white goods, crockery and utensils. More often then not, these things get stashed away in the back of a drawer or cupboard, forgotten about until you complete the dreaded annual clean out. And by that point, in the case of food, it is either past its expiry date or rotten. Now that autumn is settling in and the winter time will give way to creating jams, preserves and chutney, one should begin thinking about the correct way to store these items to ensure longevity, and most importantly, that they remain in view so they get used!

Today we are going to explore some clever storage solutions so that you can have a neat, tidy and well organised kitchen. From vintage jars and  canisters to shelves and drawers, our homify UK experts will provide you with many inspiring and ingenuous ideas for your home. Take a look..

Storage heroes

Dixon Modular Storage

Dare Studio

If you don't already have an inbuilt storage unit in your kitchen, or your rental home did not come with much cupboard space, you can very easily add a beautiful set of freestanding shelves and drawers. The Dixon Modular Storage unit by Dare Studio, is a visually stunning piece of furniture to add to any room in your home. We think this piece would look great in a retro or industrially styled kitchen, but the netural colours and shape of the shelves mean it can fit in with virtually any environment. You can store precious trinkets and antiques on the top shelves, away from children and clumsy friends, everyday crockery on the exposed shelves, and other loose objects in the drawers. A great multi-purpose piece of furniture for the discerning home decorator!

Jars of fun

Glass Jars: Kitchen by Woodquail

Glass Jars

Jars are such a simple and sustainable way to store a myriad of foods, objects and loose items in your home. For example, when we cook, we don't always use the entire packet of rice or grains. If you're afraid that mice or small insects will get into the unsealed packet, a clean jar is the perfect place to store these products in an airtight, and pest resistant container. Woodquail has designed this set of three jars with matching bamboo lids. The stand, also fashioned out of bamboo, comes with the jars in a set, and is a durable and easy to maintain material. They are great addition to any modern or classic kitchen!

Hidden treasures

Henley McKay Kitchens

If you are fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to design a kitchen from scratch, many of the kitchen units on the market today come with customised and inbuilt storage options. Henley McKay Kitchens have created this innovative and clever way to store items inside your kitchen cupboards. Disguised as a regular drawer, your guests will be surprised when they pull on the handle to discover this system. With the drawer coming out all the way, hard to reach items, which ordinarily end up at the back, are easily accessible for all.

Labels & levels

It's nothing to be ashamed about, but sometimes we forget the difference between dried oregano, thyme and rosemary. Human error can result in our adding sugar instead of salt into a savoury dish, but this can so easily be avoided. As you can see, Future Light Design has created a light filled, and innovative shelving space to store all your spices, dried goods and crockery. These are the items you need everyday, and they are easy to reach and most importantly, easily distinguishable from each other. With this clever row of lighting, you can make sure you are always picking the cardamon instead of cinnamon when you are making your favourite curry!

Handy units

If you are renting, or do not want to do permanent damage to your walls, these Carriage Shelves from Loaf, are the perfect solution to add extra storage and shelf space to your kitchen. A black steel frame borders solid reclaimed timber to create this great unit that is suitable for any space in the home. If you don't have room for a home office, you can store important documents or cookbooks on these shelves. That way, they are always easily accessible and at arms reach in case of medical or cooking emergencies!
