It's getting to that time of the year when the sun pushes back a little later, and the days begin feeling a bit longer. It might have not been an easy few cold months, but in just a couple of weeks, spring will be arriving at our doorstep.

The changing weather is bringing all sorts of new and exciting colours and sounds into our gardens and the area around us. While this enables us to spend more time outside, having longer days, and shorter evenings, perhaps it's time to consider how our home is also now due for a much-needed upgrade after the long and harsh winter.

While your home is where you'll probably spend most of your time during spring, entertaining guests and friends with lavish garden parties, and evening dinners, it's time to brighten your home with some spring colours.

With a few pieces here and there and a splash of paint, you'll be able to welcome in the new season, without having to spend an arm and a leg on renovation projects.

Start with your living room

When looking to update your home with some spring colours, start with the living room, or entertainment area. This will be the area where you'll be spending most of your time during the spring and summer months, entertaining and welcoming guests.

As a rule, look at the current state of the interior decor, and consider what can be changed or swapped out for something more bright, and welcoming. You can change a few pillows, remove warm and cosy blankets, and replace them with a comfy summer throw.

Let there be light

Why keep the curtain drawn, when there's so much to enjoy outside.

As the seasons start to change, and the sun goes down a little later each day, it's a good time to change some of the curtains in your home, perhaps remove those black-out curtains with something a bit more neutral.

The same goes for the windowsills. It's not an easy project to undertake, but during the summer, you can perhaps start looking at painting your wooden windowsills to ensure you can capture as much of that warm summer light as possible.

The rest of the room should be complimentary of each other, with decorative pieces, and furniture that can fit together. This should work for all seasons, and you should only be changing out the loose pieces as you need.

Natural and Beautiful Bedroom

The bedroom is where you come to relax.

During spring and summer, you might be using your bedroom as a place to lounge around, instead of cuddling up watching a movie.

If you have some extra spare paint left, that is not too dark and heavy, perhaps consider painting one of the walls, or even if you can the windowsills. Spring colour is all about warming up your home, while at the same time being cool, and not too contrasting.

Organize and Change

Nothing welcomes the new season like doing some proper spring cleaning. Although this is not directly tied in with the colour concept, you can consider how organizing and changing your habits a bit will help you see things in your home and office a bit differently.

With this I mean look at your current home office, how comfortable is it really to work in? Is it a space in which you can feel creative, and get work done? If not, it's time to make a few changes.

Consider adding a few simple items such as indoor plants, or perhaps getting rid of old and unused work-related materials that are cluttering up your desk. Make more room to be creative, and add items that will have you seeing things differently as the new season comes to life.

Natural colour always works

Natural colours make for welcoming home, in almost every season.

Whatever the room, or wherever you may live, adding natural, yet neutral tones to your home makes it easy to enjoy the space without having to constantly change it, or update it.

From the living room to the dining room, looking for ways in which natural colour can be best used, while not being overkill creates a functional space that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Outside needs colour too

It's not just inside that's important, but the outside parts of your home, where you'll probably be spending all of your time also needs a bit of attention. Now that the snow is gone, and everything is getting a bit of new life, look for ways in which you can update your patio or terrace.

Consider how you can make it as comfortable, functional, and practical all at once. If you can, add a few colourful cushions to the benches and lounging chairs. Old flower pots can now be painted with some light colours that complement the exterior.

Think Diffferently

The new season is all about making changes. It's time to think differently about how you can update your home. Look for new ideas in magazines and on the internet that will help you be inspired to change some of the interior elements.

Make use of cultural pieces that can add colour throughout the year, it should be kept sophisticated, and not overkill the entire design and decor of the home.

There are a plethora of ways you can make changes to your home, especially in the new season.
