The dining room, is sadly one of the spaces that is getting smaller and smaller now that homes and block sizes are shrinking. Sometimes it seems, it is deleted from the floor plan all together. Once upon a time, each room in the house had its own purpose; there wasn't a notion of multi-use or mixed-use spaces. The kitchen was solely for cooking, and the living room for relaxing. However, let's not forget; the space which has seen the biggest change in modern times is the humble bedroom. It has gone from respite room to combined study, work and even home office area. The dining room of times gone by, was an area dedicated to consumption and enjoyment. Here at homify, we believe it should return to its true purpose—a luxurious and prized space where taste buds are tantalised, drinks are poured and conversations flow. Let's take a look at 5 stunning examples of delectable dining rooms from our UK experts.

Just because a dining room is the epicentre of entertainment and good cheer, doesn't mean the decor needs to reflect these emotions. In this picture perfect example by Stephanie Coutas, we can see how the designer has employed soft shades of blue, brown and white to form a space that is harmonious and relaxing. The hanging pendant lamps draw our focus to the table, and rightly so. When we have guests present, and a meal to serve, we want all eyes on the prize, which is undoubtedly the food! A mix of classic and retro pieces come together to create a dining room that is conducive to conversation and merriment.

Petite & pretty

Eaton Square: Dining room by Loomah

Eaton Square

If you prefer a more intimate setting for your fine dining experience, you cannot look past this petite set up by Loomah. A small, cosy environment for no more than four people, which has by no means been impacted by its size. The soft furnishings in this room become the hero; the luxurious blush coloured rug, coupled with the soft drapes, frame the space, giving it snug and inviting atmosphere. On top of this, the chairs, with their embroidered backs, are opulent and regal—a dining environment fit for a king or queen!

Country charm

A brand which prides itself on being 'Quintessentially English', Cabbages & Roses, have put the most important finishing touch on this dining room that oozes with country charm—the curtains. The subtle rose detail gives the space structure; and helps to soften the table and chairs, which are a great example of the coveted shabby chic style. In this space, you can just imagine the entire family, alive with chatter and beaming over the roast or rustic meal that is about to be served.

Clear vision

A simple, yet bold table and chair set are the hero of this dining room by The Silkroad Interior Design. The clear plastic armchairs, which are in the famous King Louis shape, are a juxtaposing element to the strong and robust colour and size of the table. This division creates an interesting effect; our eyes are torn between looking at the solid timber table, and the translucent, ghost-like chairs. Despite their see-through appearance, as a unit, they become yet another bold feature. To ensure the chairs do not disappear into the white walls, an exotic bronze piece of artwork adds yet another point of interest to a dining room that is already full of personality and life.

Radiant elegance

Today, we are spoiled for choice, and here is yet another lavish and poised dining room design from Daisy Whitehead Designs. With a muted colour palette of cream, beige and white, this is a wonderful example of how a classic composition is timeless and forever elegant in a dining room. Acting as the framework for a stunning view, the floor to ceiling beige coloured curtains elongate the space, giving an aura of grandeur and height. Lack of glazing is the main reason for heat loss in a room, therefore it is important to retain the warmth and pleasant temperature inside by dressing the windows adequately.

We hope you have enjoyed this collection of dining room designs from our UK experts, and that when planning or designing a new home, that you will include, and not forget, this essential room in your home.
