The eyes of adrenaline junkies will immediately pop, and people a with fear of heights will start to get clammy hands when they see the
The Cliff House. This extraordinary concept completely redefines and blows modern living expectations out of the water, so to speak.
The design for this spectacular house comes from our experts at Modscape. An Australian couple wanted a house on the southwest coast of Victoria, Australia, that is as closely connected with nature as possible. And what could be more natural than a building that attaches itself directly to a cliff face? Let's take a closer look, so you can visualise what we mean…
The most special, and undoubtedly noticeable, feature of The Cliff House is the fact it is not built on a traditional solid foundation, but instead, anchored with steel bolts into the rock face. The architecture firm behind this marvel was inspired by barnacles; those unusual sea crustaceans that often settle on the hull of ships, jetties and boats. For obvious reasons, the house was not designed to perch, but hang, cantilevered off from the cliff. Thus, this home can be viewed as a man-made extension of the rock.
The Cliff House is a modular house, which is assembled based on a modular system. Five floors have been envisaged for this concept. The top floor, which is technically speaking, at ground level, begins the connection and accessibility between the floors. From here, all floors are connected and reachable by a vertical lift.
There is definitely ample space to live, relax and above all, enjoy the natural surrounds. In addition to a living room, kitchen and dining area, the property houses three bedrooms, a barbecue area and a spa feature. In the bottom floor where the spa is located, among other things, the room is open to the sea, so a small terrace is formed. For instance, future residents of the house can have breakfast on the terrace, with their surfing or swimming experience of that day almost close enough to touch.
The view provided from the interior is more impressive than any work of wall art. To enjoy the seascape fully, all floors are equipped with large windows. The interior is deliberately minimalist, so you can give your full and undivided attention to the nature and the landscape that surrounds the home.
This is truly a forward thinking and incredible example of modern architecture. We hope to see this project envisaged, and await the day the dreams of the clients come to fruition.
