Nestled into a historic section of Margate in Kent, you will find this luxurious and serene hotel for the perfect seaside getaway. The history of the area is plentiful; boasting a proud maritime tradition for centuries. For over 250 years, Margate has been one of the top beach side destinations in the United Kingdom, drawing visitors and tourists from around the country. In a nod to its predecessors, and following the vernacular of the area, Inara Interiors was commissioned as part of a project team, to revive and complete the interior design element of the Sands Hotel.

Following a typically maritime-themed trend, you will see the sea reflected inside. Of course, there is no better muse to have as inspiration. Not only can you feel the sea within the confines of the walls, but you have access to stunning views from both the lounge area, dining and bedroom suites. So, without further ado, let's take a peek inside..

A slice of history

The hotel is at the forefront of the re-generation of the area, but it was important that the streetscape and history of Margate was respected. Given that most of the area has been built in the Victorian era, the resort needed to pay homage to its roots. In a very subtle, yet still distinct manner, the exterior of the building was painted a delicate shade of pastel blue, which complements the original dark bricks, as well as salutes the sea it faces. The lettering above the windows is very typical to European beach resorts, and it further expresses the luxury and elegance that can be found inside.

Setting the bar

As with most opulent hotels and resorts, a well-stocked and chic bar should reside in the lobby. Whilst the design still hints the sea, mood lighting and delicate fabrics are the choice for furniture and soft furnishings here. The lighting has also been considered—so as not to detract from the stellar view of the beach, these graceful and gentle chandeliers softly light up your bar experience. Resembling the twinkle of the stars, you can sip a well-aged whisky or sherry after night has fallen, enjoying the expanse of the darkness that surrounds you.

Loungin' around

And, to accompany every bar, there should be a comfortable lounge area to sit, drink, relax and create an atmosphere conducive to good holiday cheer. These white bucket sofas, with their curved backs and solid arm rests, provide the perfect pocket of space to nestle into and chill out. Whether alone, or in the company of friends, you can be sure to enjoy the interior design, the view and of course the beverages.

Sea views

Furthering the chosen maritime theme, the dining area is too, a product of pale blue, beige and white. The drapes frame the expansive scenery outside, help add a warm and inviting ambience. Floor to ceiling windows become the framework of the space, allowing virtually uninterrupted views of the lashing waves and deep blue horizon. As with the lounges, the selected dining chairs are comfortable and ergonomic. Here, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner made from locally sourced produce, a notion which further reinforces the importance of the area.

Transcendence

Once you have finished your meal or drink, you are guided up the spiral staircase to the bedroom suite that awaits your heavy head. Of course, a day of fresh air, sunshine and beach exercise is tiring, so it is only fitting that you should rest in comfort. Leading you up to the mecca of relaxation and respite is this staircase, which in itself, is a work of art. Combining polished timber, glass and brushed steel, its angles and tribute to raw materials is a true thing of beauty. Hanging from the ceiling, and dangling gently in the air are these ornate glass decorations. Gently illuminated, they glimmer and assist your journey above to the land of nod.

Suite dreams

Finally, we reach the much anticipated bedroom suite. Designed with comfort and cosiness in mind, the gentle materials, textures and colour palette promote sleep and relaxation. Aside from a big bed, which is decked out in Egyptian cotton and natural silk, the room has been arranged in such a way that you can unwind within the confines of this room, if the environment in the lobby is not your scene. Embodying the true meaning of 'escape', this bedroom give holidaymakers the perfect space to rest, take it easy, and of course, enjoy their holiday in a sumptuous and intimate setting.
