The pattern of modern homes is shifted with the changing family structure and nature of the work while purposed-designing for the users. The overall result is a highly flexible interior with interesting contrasts, the balance between overlapped and independent. Spatial visual effect has been maximized and the behavior pattern are much freer than the past.

The user of this project is a young couple that engage in high-tech industries. For them, business trip worldwide is common occurrence and work-at-home environment is absolutely necessary. Therefore the whole residential space is divided into the main open space, private zone, guest area for the occasion and the reserve space.

The main open space is included the living, working, cooking and dining area that have been defined very clear respectively, but highly overlapped as well. By differentiating the entrance and living through the height segmentation, the closet is installed for the large volume of shoes and some outgo clothes. The boundary between indoor and outdoor is distinct by means of the material sandwiching in the living room and balcony. All the functional facilities such as business devices, drinking fountain, and kitchenware has been summarized and hidden in the proper position which could serve the working, living, cooking, dining area at the same time. Installing a total audio and video equipment, with all the appliances and accessories which is in the middle of the living room and could be expand in the future, that perfectly satisfies the owner’s particular life style. The result is a dynamic and complex interior that provides the experience of being present in all rooms without losing the possibility of retreating into just one.

The private zone has integrated the bedroom, maximized storage, walk-in shower room and the couch space which using the corner creatively. The lighting set can be separately programmed for sleeping and reading at the same time and avoiding the interruption between each activity. The various outfit, clothing, accessories are stored properly in the semi-open dressing room where is satisfied the different washing and changing process. Induction lighting is also consistent with the global trend of energy-saving and carbon reduction. Last, the couch space provides the greatest degree of relaxation where can read, sit back and or enjoy the night view.

Using the lift bed hidden in the wall to obtain the more space, thus the guest room could be multi-functional such as Yoga or other excising in daily life. Then the reserve space accommodates the laundry, washing lines, laundry and cleaning supplies and air conditioning equipment, that meets the daily routine storage requirement without any concern of working area.

Followed by the modern residential demand, the old traditional design thinking certainly should be review. A highly flexible interior with interesting contrasts, the balance between overlapped and independent is realizable. As result, this is a stimulating work-at-home environment but the solution could work well for family, too.
