The brief from the client was to reinvent a corner of the garden transforming it from a redundant play area into a relaxing space that could be enjoyed by all the family. Up until then, the area had been used for trampolining by the children. The design had to ensure that the new area blended well with the open plan, contemporary-style of the rest of the garden while still delivering a design in keeping with the idea of outdoor lounging.
The trampoline, bark chippings and timber sleepers were replaced with a hardwood deck featuring extra-large sawn sandstone slabs running through its centre and a firepit. Planting pockets were cut into the deck to allow soft landscaping in the form of a specimen multi-stem Silver Birch tree and ornamental evergreen grasses to be introduced. The whole area was then edged with decorative beach pebbles. Over-sized contemporary containers in graphite grey together with a purpose-built logstore and raised beds painted in the same graphite grey colour completed the outdoor lounge look.
