Renovation and modernisation of 1920’s family home.
Location: Theescombe
Client: Private
We were challenged to modernise and completely update this 5 bedroom 1920’s house, to make it a light filled spacious and functional family home, super insulated and as energy efficient as possible.
The building has been wrapped in a thick layer of insulation and clad in cedar shingles, integrating the building into the wooded hillside setting. Large expanses of uninterrupted glazing bring the building up-to-date and the result is a clean, contemporary home that maximises the views out across the valley connecting the wider landscape into the living space. The introduction of a new stair into the central living space with a glazed mezzanine creates a double height space, allowing light to flood the living areas elevating the feel of the rooms.
This project challenged what could be achieved within the constraints of an existing building and pushed the boundaries of retrofit and renovation.
