This new courtyard was designed to be an outdoor ‘room’ to link the modern house with the garden. It was designed to bring in much needed light, be easy to maintain, have sound, simplicity and elegance. In a small space everything has to count but ‘less is more’! The water wall was designed for impact and is very much a focal point together with the fish pool. Complementary planting has been designed with structure in mind – tall grasses, a pair of standard wisteria and bamboos bring in height, whilst topiary spheres add a classical element. Lights make this a twelve month twenty four hour garden – much enjoyed by its owners (us! – this is our previous garden in Henley on Thames)
