External front Crafted Architects Country house

A derelict stables, last used to 1980’s. We were tasked with turning the building into an attractive modern home.

Maintaining the style and character of this interesting building was essential for this project, whilst bringing some issues to light.

The rear of the stables were built into the bank, meaning there was roughly 2ft of soil against the building which needed removing in order to create a rear outdoor space.

To ensure we maintained the original style throughout, we used forged ironmongery across the property as well as having the existing doors retained and adapted. Where additional doors were needed, we had new doors made to match the existing.

We uncovered all sorts of interesting things during this project, which included us finding a well – 94ft deep, 3.5 ft diameter and cut by hand within chalk.
