Amidst the historical area of the Old Dutch city “Dordrecht”, lays a very contemporary and balanced garden. On three different height levels, a rustic garden is realized surrounded by ancient buildings full of atmosphere and ambience. The resident enjoy their ‘ oasis in the city’ from the recently renovated house at the highest level of the parcel. Its clear that the resident has spared neither cost nor effort the make their garden an amazing outdoor experience. Over the luxury wooden flooring system you walk via a stairway towards a lower level of the garden. The dark-purple water-wall contrasts against the ancient masonry walls at the end of the line of sight. The ornamental grasses at the top of the water-wall soften this contrast. Four multi-stemmed Parrotia’s, which are known because of their beautiful autumn colours, adorn the aisle that runs parallel to the back entrance. These trees stand in modern white and custom made planters, surrounded by blue flowering plants and ornamental grasses. Two sitting areas are located on this middle floor. The first is furnished as a lounge area and is foreclosed by four large columnar planters with a stainless Steel upper edge. In order to sit in a more active stance one can use the second seating area, which is furnished with a higher table and chairs on a luxurious wooden flooring system. The various planters are lightened with spotlights and are combined with creative seats. The applied illumination emphasizes the genuine walls during the evenings. Via a steel stairway, with steps of natural stone strips, the lowest level of the garden can be reached. On this level we designed a custom made kitchen. A wall of glass can devide this kitchen into an inside and an outside part. The residents can enjoy culinary delights from their integrated big green eggs. The sliding wall of glass enables the residents to enjoy the kitchen in sunny and rainy weather conditions. This fantastic project gives an feeling of a ‘never ending vacation in your own garden!’.
