Sheraton grand edinburgh—reception modern hotels by mkv design modern | homify

With its premier location looking towards Edinburgh’s castle, the Sheraton Grand is the preferred hotel for international dignitaries visiting Scotland’s capital as well as business travellers throughout the week and leisure visitors during weekends and holidays. However, over the years the hotel’s appearance had grown tired and MKV Design was given the brief to uplift the design and enhance the experience for all the diverse types of guests.

Guestroom layouts were optimised to accommodate a four-fixture bathroom, as guests would expect to find today in a high quality hotel, with a separate space for the toilet. Since the overall room size had to remain the same, the designers made the best use of the existing area to increase guests’ sense of luxury and comfort.

MKV opened-up the public areas, creating a natural flow of spaces so that guests could easily understand where to go by seeing through the entire ground floor from one side of the building to the other. The lobby, bar and restaurant needed greater gravitas, drama and regional identity while also increasing the options offered to guests. Aesthetics follow those of the guestroom floors – warm, contemporary and with local touches that create a sense of place.
