The remodelling and extending of the lower ground floor was the second phase of our work on this Victorian house in Primrose Hill. The smaller extension on the left—infilling the former side passageway—contains a store-room for the family's five bicycles, as well as a study that projects out to face the garden; the larger and taller top-lit extension to the right accommodates a new family dining alcove. The two new structures play off against each other across the decked terrace, separated by a new 3metre high glazed doorway, with a pair of water butts sitting like guard dogs against each boundary wall. The main family room, which was previously a somewhat dysfunctional space and through-route, has been transformed through the reversal of the positions of the door and window to the rear garden and the building of the new dining extension.
