This scheme creating a two bedroom apartment draws much of its character from specific constraints inherited from the initial developer. A tight budget combined with the presence of an existing plywood floor and a finished ceiling, both of which were inviolable parts of the acoustic separation agreed between the developer and Islington Building Control, presented particular challenges in formulating an elegant solution.The strategy generated uses a new raised floor to accommodate cabling and pipework. The resultant level changes simultaneously help define the private space, including the master bedroom, whilst still allowing them to flow naturally off the principal living areas. The partition wrapped around the circular bath draws visitors along a sinuous, enclosed circulation route from the main entrance into the openness of the living area.
