The reordering and extension of the top floor apartment of an Edwardian mansion building, located in the Tufnell Park Conservation area of Islington.
The proposals entail extending into the attic space and almost doubling the size of the existing apartment. This has required a close attention to detail using imaginative solutions to address the spatial limitations imposed by the existing building. These include the use of alternate treads to minimise the space taken up by the staircase and using creative structural solutions to optimise headroom on the upper level. Even the positioning of rooflights has been used as a technique to maximise space.
