This project to refurbish a semi-detached Victorian villa situated within one of London’s Arcadian conservation areas focuses on increasing the spatial connectivity between the house and its garden and within the house itself.

In response to the building’s existing four floors, a series of double-storey high volumes have been inserted into the fabric. Spaces are linked horizontally and vertically, opening up unexpected views within and beyond the house. A tapered staircase, approaching a 4.5 metre high glazed opening, leads from the entrance hall on a raised ground floor down to garden level where the kitchen area extends into the exterior via a sunken terrace.

Dark natural materials such as Belgian Basalt and stained Oak are contrasted by bespoke designed joinery pieces in light finishes.
