Black Oak renovated our 1-bedroom flat in Little Venice W2, including fitting a new kitchen and bathroom, laying new wood floors, re-wiring, plastering and decorating throughout. They are a good quality company, with a lot of personal support from Dominik, the director.
Having been relocated to Amsterdam at short notice Dominik and The Black Oak team undertook a full bathroom renovation for us in order to prepare the house to be rented.
From the initial communication, through to design and planning, quotation, ordering of materials and fixtures and then completing the agreed works, the Black Oak team were truly exceptional.
Our house only took one weekend to rent at it's full asking price with everyone who came to view commenting on the exceptional bathroom and under floor heating. No doubt that room was the star of the show.
Due to the quality and professionalism of the work the team then took on a number of other jobs and repairs in the house such as changing a Saniflo toilet in a wet room to a fully plumbed in toilet (a job three other tradesman had not found a solution for!), pipe insulation when our boiler shutdown during the cold weather and even removing and disposing of old white goods as a favour when I asked!
Dominik went above and beyond across the entire project and we could not be happier with the results. We have recommended Black Oak to a number of friends and also used his team again for a rented flat we own and different area of expertise (see separate review).
We would not hesitate to recommend Black Oak and in fact would not use anyone else's services again now that we have found them!

I appointed Black Oak Builders (BoB) in July-2018 for a full refurbishment project of a 100sqm first floor Victorian conversion apartment in south west London. This followed many quotes from other builders.
The work included everything from new kitchen installation; 2 large structural openings to lounge/kitchen and to rear balcony; 2 new bathrooms as wet rooms; new windows and sliding doors; soundproofing; full replastering; new flooring, rewiring and plumbing throughout; new doors, frames and architraves, balcony re-fit and full redecoration (and much more!)
Dominik provided a detailed response to my schedule of works, costing per item in a clear and transparent way, further supported by a clear payment schedule specific to my project and milestones. This included a final retainer was agreed for post completion snagging.
Overall project was big and very demanding but BoB did a fantastic job, the space is amazing, unrecognisable and finished to the such a high standard.
So to summarise - why choose Black Oak Builders:
- Quality of work is very high/exceptional
- Service throughout and end-to-end experience
- They care about the result, the home you are creating
- Extremely reliable
- Clear communication
I would absolutely recommend Black Oak Builders - 5 stars

I am writing to provide my feedback on the work of Dom and the guys at Black Oak Builders. If you do not want to read the whole review, you can move on after reading the key question – would I use Black Oak Builders again? Answer – yes, we have already discussed the next project.
We engaged Dom via an introduction and found his communication to be thorough, polite and informative. After agreeing the spec and price, the guys set to work. We did experience a delay during our project, partly our fault due to delayed deliveries and partly theirs, due to short staffing. However, now that the project is complete, I can reflect and say that we are happy with the work delivered and in particular the attention to detail in the finish.
We had a single storey extension built, in a tight space, involving drainage work and other foundations in close proximity. Dom’s team worked carefully and diligently to deal with the risks and issues.
The main tradesmen on our job were Robert and Maciek, who spoke limited English but with frequent communication via Dom, we were kept up to date with progress and consulted throughout on finishes, positions and other key matters. At no time did we feel that the guys did something that in any way cut a corner or left a result that we were not happy with. When tricky situations presented themselves, Dom explained the options and the positives and negatives, allowing us to make informed decisions.
The site was left clean after each day. The tradesmen were skilled, polite, respectfull and worked hard, always with access to the right tools and materials for each element of the job.
The finishing stage of our job included installing an Oak worktop to a new utility space, which involved Dom joining 2 pieces of worktop together in an offsite workshop, to ensure the final fit was seamless. The tiling to finish the splashback was excellent, including mitred joins on the tiles to avoid the need for use of tile trim around the corners.
Dom remained in contact after the job was finished, ensuring the appropriate certification was provided from Building control.
All in all, we are delighted with the delivered project and look forward to working with Dom and his team in the future.
