Friend’s House in Euston, the national headquarters of the Quaker movement in the UK has always had a cafe and bookshop on Euston Road. These are now incorporated into a new Quaker Centre to provide a public interface with the Quaker community. TKA designed the centre that includes a new cafe, bookshop and resource room as well as a separate worship space, offering the chance to experience Quaker prayer. In accordance with Quaker values the design approach has encompassed sustainability using simple, locally sourced materials such as Spruce plywood and a robust yet economic specification. TKA has since designed a masterplan for the remainder of the building including the implementation of office and meeting room fit-outs at the upper levels of Friend’s House.
