This contemporary property is perched within a valley in Clapton in Gordano and enjoys wonderful south facing views across North Somerset. The gardens wrap around the house and was on a steep slope from back to front boundary. The garden had to be brought up to date and needed to reflect the contemporary aesthetic of the exterior and interior of the house that had been recently modernised.
A bespoke circular stone wall was designed to sit within the sloping ground and provides a great entertaining space for the entire family and provides a wonderful feature with it’s sloping curved stonework detailing. The large planting bed behind was originally overgrown with mixed shrubs, once cleared this provided a large area that was planted with grasses and perennials that enhanced the views from the top of the garden and also from within the house looking out.
The front garden originally on sloping ground was levelled to provide a large flat lawn area for the children to play. New stone walls and steps up to the front door were created to enhance the front vista of the house and lead guests towards the front door from the driveway. The main driveway was improved so parking could be kept away from the view from the house. A new stone raised planter was constructed around the base of the existing tree and softened with underplanting The design also makes use of the levels changes around the side of the house with the addition of a series of large deck platforms that lead from the front garden up to the main stone patio and circular deck seating area. A mixture of structural evergreen planting and softer swathes of perennials and grasses to add colour and drama ensures the garden looks good year round.
