Will Caradoc-Hodgkins of leading London residential architects and interior designers 4D Studio was commissioned by the client to get a Change of Use from Office to Residential use for this 1500 sq. ft. space and to design a dramatic home taking advantage of the unique features of the former office. The original configuration had a floor at ground level and a basement with a low ceiling rendering it unusable other than for storage so the challenge was to create greater useable floor space. The solution was to strip out the ground floor structure and to introduce a mezzanine floor at a new level so that both levels had useable headroom. The mezzanine enabled us to take advantage of the tall windows facing onto the square, providing a dramatic two storey living space. The all glass structural balustrading added to the lightness of this interior.
