Design Style: Modern
Location: Midrand, Johannesburg
This project, the Ntshalintshali residence, is located in the esteemed Waterfall Country Village in Midrand outside Johannesburg. For this newly proposed structure, the client requested a family home with adequate space and layout for hosting social get-togethers.
The newly constructed residence that showcases an intimate approach (yet stylishly modern and original) in its design.
A triple garage was included to capitalise on the available space.
A mixing and matching of complementing materials (including exposed brick, glass, and concrete) aid in the visual detail of the house's exterior design.
The three main social areas of the interiors (the kitchen, dining room, and lounge) brilliantly flow into one another in a convenient open-plan layout. This ensures perfect intimacy between the various spaces.
For the living room, a double volume ceiling was included (complete with high-level windows and a link to a portion of the upstairs floor with its glass balustrades) for a wide and welcoming ambience. This also helps to usher in more natural light.
Similar to the outside façade, the interiors also sport interesting finishes, especially with the stone-clad wall which becomes one amazing feature piece.
A convenient breakfast bar visually separates the lounge from the adjoining kitchen.
A covered entertainment space flows out of the lounge and leads to a braai area and modern swimming pool. This ensures much more legroom for jovial get-togethers with friends and family.
Even the most private spaces of the house received subtle-yet-stylish designs. Notice how select finishes and pieces (such as the stone-clad feature piece) echo designs in other parts of the house.
A convenient and spacious patio leads out of the master bedroom. A pergola design ensures a delightful interplay between light and shadow which changes throughout the day.
