The Ubuntu Football Club, a non-profit soccer academy aimed at mentoring and educating South Africa’s next generation of leaders, was in need of affordable housing for its youth development programme. Thus, an existing shipping container was altered to become a cooking-, dining-, relaxing-, and even sleeping- and washing space for the students.
Once this project was completed, the club had a single-storey house with its own kitchen, dining zone, laundry room, bathroom, bedrooms, and a separate lounge space to enjoy. A glass sliding door was added for privacy and to conveniently close off the cooking / dining area from the lounging space.
The new bathroom space is adequate to accommodate up to 8 people.
A clean and simple colour scheme, along with the modern / minimalist style, ensures everything looks more open and inviting.
To relax and socialise in style, students can retreat to the lounge area with its various (soft and colourful) seating options.
A fresh and healthy dose of natural light filters indoors via the windows, as well as the adjoining culinary zone.
Bunk beds in the bedroom make the most of the limited legroom. And there's even leftover space for wardrobes and a few side tables.
The laundry room to help these living quarters be as functional and practical for the students as possible.
