Wooden Festival Peacock

Carved hardwood peacock with evidence of intricate painted decoration on wood and on padded cotton. Leather seat pad with high backrest.This unique creation would have been ridden on by a small child during religious festivals in southern IndiaUnder the peacock's left claw is a wooden cobra, the peacock is a destroyer of snakes and was believed to swallow their venom. It then used the poisons it swallowed to create it’s colourful plumage.
