Situated in what can be thought of as the second phase of James Craig’s Edinburgh New Town, this property commands an envious view south along Dundas Street towards the Castle. Its classic late Georgian proportions meant that we did not have to intervene very much to make the most of the aspect and situation.
Our proposals centered on modernising the services; lighting, heating and connectivity, getting the basics right while also enlarging and refitting the kitchen. As is normal when working with listed buildings there was a large element of stripping back layers of previous interventions and improving existing poor construction. Probably the biggest and most difficult decision for the client was deciding to loose one bedroom in order to make provision for a light filled, generous family bathroom and separate luxurious ensuite. Elegant, detailed bespoke storage furniture completed the bath and shower room designs while discrete, modern lighting complimented the classic shapes and proportions.
