Meltzer Ames Loft

This lower Manhattan full-floor loft in a former printing house was originally designed by the firm for two television producers.  The current owners hired us to create a new interior to showcase their contemporary art collection and accommodate their young family.

The Tribeca building suffered extensive damage from water and fire and was only marginally inhabited until the late 1990s. The firm was integrally involved in the reconstruction of the core and shell, as well as this second-floor residence.

For this interior, we developed an architectural “wrapper” to create specificity of use throughout the large open space—selectively concealing and revealing cooking, dining, media functions, while also providing a cavity for the building services. The residence includes an entry foyer, an open living/dining room, a wood-burning fireplace, kitchen, two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, study, laundry room, and rear terrace.
